Successful outcomes of root canal treatment, in addition to a multitude of factors, also depends on the prevention of reinfection of the root canal space. The ultimate goal of root canal treatment is prevention or healing of apical periodontitis. The use of biologically active materials to seal root canal systems has been extensively proposed in contemporary endodontics to achieve this goal. This lecture focuses on various applications of bioceramics in endodontics including complete obturation of canals, management of open apex, external and internal resorption and perforation repair. Clinical cases will be presented to understand the concepts of biocompatibility, antibacterial and regenerative properties of bioceramics. Clinical techniques will also be discussed to demonstrate the usage of bioceramic materials.
Safeguarding a reproducible glide path before instrumentation is suggested to maintain the original geometry of the root canal system and to prevent file separation. In this lecture, the concepts, strategies and techniques that will result in a smooth, reproducible glide path will be emphasized along with working length, patency and how to consistently create a smooth, reproducible glide path in various anatomical configurations will be addressed.
